Texting Convo With Tavis

I was working tonight and had the following conversation with Tavis:

Tavis: Will you call around to Avery's friends and tell her to get her butt home? I don't know where she is.
Me: Try next door. I don't know where she is, either. (I'm at work remember?)
Tavis: Hayden went to J's and next door. I don't know if she went up the street to her friend's or what.

So I call him.

Me: Did you find her?
Tavis: No. Doesn't she have a friend that lives up the street that you take her to sometimes?
Me: Ya, but I don't think she'd be there. She's like a "drive her there" type of friend. Avery wouldn't just take off to her house. (So now I'm starting to panic.)
Tavis: Well, I'm starting to get pissed because I'm worried and I don't like to worry.
Me: Did you check B's back yard?
Tavis: It's dark. She should have come home by now.
Me: I agree! (It was 8:40 pm)
Tavis: She was here and I didn't even see her leave the house. This is why I don't think the kids should be able to just run the neighborhood whenever they want.
Me: Well, honey, they don't run the 'hood when they're with me.
Tavis: Wait. Let me check something...................
Tavis:.......OK, she's here. I remember her telling me she was tired and asked if she could go take a nap. She's asleep in her bed.
Me: DUH!!!! You're re-gosh-dang-tarded! Way to be babysitter of the year, hun. You gave me a freakin' heart attack!!!!!

They can never do it as well as we do. They just can't multi-task!

Dads aren't babysitters. Not even step-dads. I don't think I can emphasize this enough.

And what's the deal with kids VOLUNTARILY napping? It totally throws off your "I'm gonna throttle that kid when I find her" groove.

There is nothing in the world like loosing your kid only to find them in your own house!

Carsen is my only child that puts himself to bed, even if it's with the "walls" help ;) (sorry, not funny if you don't know the story behind it...ha ha funny if you do!)

You's watch kids a little differently than mom's do...Men... can't live with 'em, just can't shoot 'em!

I have had that EXACT conversation with C. Seriously. And it was about TJ. When he was 3. And he really was lost in the neighbor's backyard for 2 hours, while I was gone to the store, and he was "watching the kids."
Yeah, good job Dads!!

I did this once when we were in undergrad school. Thing 1 was lost and I couldn't find her anywhere (she was 18mo) I freaked out. Called Jefe home from school, had all the neighbors looking AND campus police.

I found her in the closet asleep.

That was my first dip into craptastic mothering.

Whenever John causes me to worry about nothing, I make him rub my feet. My feet get a lot of rubbing. :-)

That is hilarious! Way to not check the place where she said she would be Tavis!

I can't stand Nibs. I can't believe anyone even likes them besides my dad.
